Andrea Gaines headshot

Andrea joined the UCI Organizational Services unit in October 2015. Her primary responsibilities include workshops, executive coaching, consultations, and the design, facilitation, and evaluation of core and custom supervisory, management and leadership development programs. As a member of the greater UC HR community, she has the additional responsibility of championing and contributing to the stewardship of enterprise-wide and local initiatives that further the ability of HR to provide service, leadership, and support in achieving the University’s strategic objectives.

Prior to joining UCI, Andrea worked as a learning and organizational development professional within the private sector for over 25 years, including as a trainer, curriculum designer, internal consultant, and manager for major money center financial institutions, Automatic Data Processing (ADP), and most recently, at a full-service engineering firm.

Caroline Adams is the Campus Ombuds and Director of the Office of the Ombuds at UCSB, where she works with staff to prevent and address UCSB-related concerns and conflicts. Prior to the Office of the Ombuds, she worked in Employee and Labor Relations, and helped to design and deliver the Bee SMART About Safety training program for Supervisors and Managers, as well as the Human Resources Academy. She is a certified Crucial Conversations© trainer and regularly presents workshops on conflict resolution, communication skills, and engagement. She is a Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner™ and has certifications in Mediation, Advanced Mediation and Family Mediation. She is Vice Chair of the American Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section’s Ombuds Committee. She is also a reviewer for the Journal of the International Ombudsman Association and regularly presents at their annual conferences.

A former attorney, Caroline earned her J.D. at the University of Montana with an emphasis on dispute resolution and competed on the ABA Negotiation Team. Caroline holds a Master of Fine Arts as well. When she’s not in her office, she’s usually on a trail or in the ocean.

Cheryl Lloyd is the Associate Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for the University of California system. Cheryl is an experienced Risk Manager with over two decades of experience, 18 years of which have been with the University of California. As AVP & Chief Risk Officer, Cheryl oversees a myriad of programs for UC's medical centers, varied global research activities and safety and health programs for students, faculty and staff. She also has oversight of the University's Environment, Health and Safety programs (EH&S), Business Continuity programs, Emergency Management and travel, and risk security programs, and serves as President of Fiat Lux, the University's wholly owned captive insurance company.

Major initiatives and programs for the department of Risk Services include implementing Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) throughout the University, reducing the overall cost of risk, implementing systemwide safety and loss mitigation programs, improving claims management systems, and developing risk financing strategies.

Cheryl began her career in the insurance and risk industry with Chubb Insurance. Before joining University of California in 1998, she was the corporate risk manager for Core-Mark International.

Cheryl has a dual degree in Mass Communications and Sociology from U.C. Berkeley.

Delanda is a highly motivated Business & Financial leader with over 25 years of professional experience working with large, complex organizations both in the corporate and university environments. Her collaborative leadership style coupled with extensive knowledge of both university accounting and business operations is a unique blend ideally aligned with the key success factors, goals, initiatives, and the vision of the University.

In her current role as Executive Director of Business & Finance for the Office of Research at UC Davis, Delanda is responsible for the financial management and strategic oversight for the Office of Research as a whole. This includes financial oversight of approximately 20 Organized Research Units, Core Facilities, and Special Research Projects with an annual operating budget of ~$110 Million, as well as day-to-day management and financial oversight for approximately 17 Vice Chancellor Administrative Units with an annual operating budget of approximately $25 Million including Sponsored Programs, Innovation Access, and IT Services.

A native of California, Delanda graduated from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Finance. Upon graduation she joined Australia’s largest company at the time, BHP Minerals International, Incorporated, her tenure for whom included a three year out-of-state assignment to New Mexico where she obtained a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) – International Business. As an inspiring leader, she has been honored by the nominations to attend various, prestigious leadership programs over her career including the Global Leadership Conference in Melbourne, Australia and the UC Executive Leadership and Management Institute at Stanford University.

Joining originally in order to improve her communication and leadership skills, Donna has been a Toastmaster for over five years. She feels inspired by all the amazing, fellow Toastmasters she has met to pay forward and share with others what she has learned along the way. Donna currently serves as the Assistant Division B Director for the Club Growth team and as of July 1st, will serve as the Club Growth Director for District 1.

Donna works at the UCLA Anderson School of Management in the Parker MBA Career Management Center, continuing a 26-year career with UCLA. As the Director of Employer Relations, she maintains and develops relationships with over 200 companies annually, seeking to recruit MBA students. She also serves as the liaison between the MBA Career Center and the Admissions Department for The Consortium, an international program dedicated to increasing diversity in the business world.

Erin joined CEB in 2013 and has experience supporting HR Government Human Capital members as well as customer contact leaders in the private sector.

Prior to joining CEB, Erin led a sales team at Groupon and worked in the non-profit sector raising funds and awareness for a charter school in Chicago. Erin attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish. She currently resides in Chicago with her husband and enjoys reading, fitness, and experiencing the local food scene with friends and family.

Evelyn Carter headshot

Research Scientist, UCLA

Dr. Evelyn Carter received her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Indiana University, where her research focused on how people detect cues to racial bias and discuss bias across group lines. After graduation, she received funding from the National Science Foundation to continue her research as a postdoctoral scholar at Purdue University. There, she investigated successful racial bias confrontation strategies and ways that language can subtly reinforce harmful gender stereotypes. Her work has been published in academic journals such as Social Cognition and Social and Personality Psychology Compass, and she regularly presents at conferences and universities across the country.

Evelyn’s current focus is on using social science research to help create and sustain equity, diversity, and inclusion on college campuses. She has substantial experience in this area, having led collaborative teams of university administrators, faculty, and students to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based programs at five different universities.

She has experience in a diverse array of industries, including healthcare, education, insurance, banking and financial services. Helen’s focus in all her endeavors is to help others in their development and to build effective partnerships while accomplishing business results.

Hyun is a seasoned benefits professional with 20 years of experience. Early in her career, she was a consultant at Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young, helping clients design and implement competitive benefit programs. She then moved into an internal HR role as global benefits manager at AES Corporation, overseeing health and retirement plans strategy and administration.

Hyun joined the University Of California’s Office of the President in 2013 as Manager of Benefits Education. Among her many responsibilities is managing the systemwide retirement savings plan communications and education program, which features a robust set of resources to help UC faculty and staff build retirement readiness. “Success” to her means that employees understand UC’s generous retirement benefits, as well as make smart financial decisions that will ensure that their money lasts through retirement.

Hyun holds a BA in Economics from Johns Hopkins and a MPH from Yale. An East Coast native, she currently lives with her husband and two kids in beautiful Irvine, CA.

Ingrid works across the HR Practice’s entire suite of talent management and human resources functional effectiveness products, including performance management, employee engagement, employment value proposition design and human resources business partner effectiveness. Ingrid also leads both virtual as well as in-person presentations and workshops for member organizations.

Prior to the Executive Advisor role, Ingrid served as the Director of Best Practices Research at CEB Learning and Development. She helped to launch the research program in 2002, specializing in the development of best-practice case profiles in management and leadership development in studies such as Supporting the Manager-Led Development Mandate, Leaders Who Develop the Next Generation of Leaders, Boosting the Effectiveness of Frontline Management, Boosting the Predictability of L&D Returns, and Refocusing L&D on Business Results. She also pioneered the development of training materials, and job aids for CEB-HR Practice clients’ manager and leader populations. Prior to joining CEB, Ingrid Laman was a research intern for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ competitive intelligence unit in Bethesda, Maryland.

Ingrid received her Masters of Science in International Relations from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She also received her B.A. in International Relations and Spanish from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She works remotely from Los Angeles, California.

Lubbe Levin first joined UCLA in 2002 as Assistant Vice Chancellor—Campus Human Resources and was promoted in 2007 to her current role as Associate Vice Chancellor. She is responsible for providing strategic and policy leadership for the full range of human resource programs and policies at the campus.

Prior to coming to UCLA, she held key positions at the UC Office of the President over a span of 25 years. She served as Assistant Vice President for Policy, Planning and Research in Human Resources and Benefits. That role encompassed responsibility for policy development, strategic planning, legislative affairs, best practices research, and constituent relations with faculty and staff advisory groups. Prior to that role, she served as Assistant Vice President--Human Resources, including systemwide responsibility for compensation programs, staff affirmative action/EEO, employee & labor relations, and training and development. She did groundbreaking work in such areas as development of the University’s labor relations policy, incentive and recognition programs, diversity initiatives, domestic partner benefits, and led efforts to restructure the human resource policy system. Between 1991 and 2001, she also served as program director for the University of California Management Institute.

Dr. Levin received her Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from UC Berkeley and completed her undergraduate degree with Great Distinction at Stanford University. Her academic background includes serving on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis.

Marie-Ann Hairston started her role as Systemwide Employee Relations Director at the beginning of October 2014. She has a wealth of experience in Human Resources spanning nearly 20 years. For the past eight, she has been the Executive Director of Human Resources at UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Prior to her work at UC Hastings, she served as the HR Director for the University Health Services division on the Berkeley campus. She has also served as an HR Director or consultant to various non-profits throughout the Bay Area.

Marie’s primary focus is on advancing the Systemwide ER Strategy to further enhance employee engagement and continue to build an overall employee relations program and environment where we are regarded as an excellent employer. She works closely with our various staff organizations including the Council of University Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) and the Staff Advisors to the Regents to develop programming that has a positive impact on work life for our staff.

Peter has worked for UCOP Labor Relations in different capacities for over 20 years and currently serves as the Director for Labor Relations, a position he has held for the last four and a half years. In this role, he oversees bargaining and administration of the 13 systemwide collective bargaining agreements between the University and eight different unions, including the Teamsters, AFSCME and the California Nurses Association.

The systemwide collective bargaining agreements cover an incredibly diverse group of employees that includes lecturers, nurses, food service workers and police officers. The collective bargaining and contract administration work requires Peter and his team to work closely with the 10 campuses, five medical centers and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Since assuming his responsibilities, Peter has made it a major objective to minimize operational disruptions and improve relationships with our union colleagues.

Prior to coming to UC in 1996, Peter was a lawyer with a specialty in labor and employment. He is originally from the Northeast and an avid bicyclist.

After relocating to the Bay Area, Stephanie served as Of Counsel to Fisher & Phillips LLP.

Yvette Gullatt is responsible for leading the department of Diversity and Engagement, a department crucial to the University of California’s efforts to ensure access to postsecondary education for more low-income, educationally disadvantaged California students from diverse backgrounds. Diversity and Engagement provides UC campuses with research on best practices, support for credential candidate recruitment and preparation, support for educator leadership initiatives, and it administers a variety of statewide academic programs for college preparation.

Yvette has long and deep roots at the University of California. She has worked for nearly 20 years on policy, strategic partnerships, and program design and delivery that improve student learning and achievement, first at Berkeley and then at UC Office of the President.
